Roma Education Fund Scholarship Applications are Open Again!

The scholarship applications for Roma students have started within the scope of the project "EU Regional Action for Roma Education: Increasing Support and Opportunities for Roma Students in the Western Balkans and Turkey (RARE) - Phase II," financed by the European Union (EU) and the Roma Education Fund (REF) and carried out by the Sıfır Ayrımcılık Derneği.

Within the scholarship program that started in the 2023-2024 academic year, scholarships will continue to be provided to Roma youth who continue their education in high school and university in the 2024-2025 academic year. Young people who qualify for scholarships will also have the opportunity to develop themselves academically and personally through mentoring services and various support courses.

It is aimed to increase the access of Roma youth to education.

While the education rates of Roma youth are quite low, absenteeism and dropout rates are very high. One of the biggest barriers to accessing education is financial difficulties. Due to economic challenges, families cannot cover educational expenses. Additionally, families' lack of sufficient knowledge about the importance of education and the lack of role models accelerate the disconnection of these young people from education.

This project aims to reduce the financial difficulties, school adaptation problems, risk of grade retention, and challenges faced during the transition to employment that Roma high school and university students experience in accessing education.

Gender Equality-Focused Scholarship Program for Roma Youth

Particular attention will be paid to gender equality in the evaluation process of scholarship applications, and the scholarship program holds the distinction of being the only scholarship provided to Roma youth in Turkey. Through this unique scholarship program, an important step will be taken to reduce the disadvantages of Roma youth in education and to offer them a fairer future.

Application Requirements and Details

For high school students applying for this scholarship program, the necessary conditions are as follows: the student must be Roma and must be studying in one of the provinces of Edirne, Istanbul, Izmir, or Hatay.
