Izzetpasa Community Centre

There are more than 60 neighbourhoods in Istanbul where Roma live. Most of these are poor neighbourhoods. However, İzzetpaşa neighbourhood in Şişli, which is always under the shadow of high-rise residences, is one of the poorest neighbourhoods. Elmas Arus summarises Yıldız Street, where the İzzet Paşa Community Centre is located, with the sentence 'I have visited over 400 Roma neighbourhoods in many provinces in Turkey, but I have never seen another neighbourhood in the centre of the city that is so poor'.
